  My Story

My Story? Well I never really pictured myself as big or large, but over the last few years the weight has been ganging up on me. I did not start this diet for myself though. Let me explain... My wife who I adore is over weight and probably the other "O" word too. She is a nurse for a local physician here in town and refers obese patients to a nutritionist when they ask the Doc for weight help. About a year ago, my mother was having a physical at the same doctor's office and he recommended she loose 60 to 70 pounds for her health, she is 67 and was referred to the nutritionist. She was put on Medifast and so began her journey. When I heard what my mother was doing I asked my wife if she was interested in trying it. She declined saying she could not exist on shakes and it cost too much. I wanted to be encouraging so I told her not to worry about the cost, it was a drop in the bucket compared to her health. She still declined my offer. Then one day a relative made a comment about her weight, the truth really hurt her. I again suggested seeing the nutritionist and once the tears slowed, she accepted my offer on one condition…. That I also attend, not to watch, but to participate! Now what do I do? I did not need to loose weight or even want to! I wanted to just say, “well we can’t afford both of us going”, but I already told her money was not the issue, it was for health. So I had to accept her challenge. Update: 10/20/04 What a difference 3 months make! We have both been on a modified fast having one small meal per day. I have lost 47 pounds from my highest weight of 212 and look 20 years younger! I only have about one half pound to goal, but I think I want to loose another 5 pounds yet. I have transitioned to maintance, but still supporting my wife. My waist has went from 40” to 32”. My wife has lost 52 pounds. I will post pictures soon.
